Templates & Spintax
NoteConfirm includes seven predefined order templates covering the order lifecycle. Each template supports Shopify variables and spintax syntax to vary content and maintain your brand voice.
Abandoned checkouts have three additional templates: first message, second message, and final message. They use checkout variables and the recovery sequence settings. See Abandoned Checkout Recovery for setup, variables, and optional images.
Available templates
| Template | Trigger event | Response window |
|---|---|---|
| Prepaid order | Order created with confirmed payment | Configurable (default 24h) |
| Cash on delivery | Order created without payment | Configurable (default 24h) |
| Shipped | Fulfillment created | Not applicable |

| Cancelled | Order cancelled | Not applicable |
| Refund | Refund processed | Not applicable |

Response window: Only confirmation templates (prepaid and cash on delivery) have a configurable window. It defines how long NoteConfirm waits before marking the order as pending. Other templates are sent when the event occurs.
Available variables
Use these placeholders in any template. They are automatically replaced with Shopify order data.
| Variable | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
{{order_number}} | Order number | #1048 |
{{customer_name}} | Customer name | Jane Smith |
{{total_price}} | Order total with currency | $45.00 USD |
{{item_count}} | Number of items | 3 |
{{shipping_address}} | Full shipping address | 123 Main St, New York |
{{shop_name}} | Store name | My Online Store |
{{tracking_url}} | Shipping tracking URL | https://... |
Spintax syntax
Spintax lets you vary parts of the message so it's not always identical. Use braces and pipes to define variants:
Each time a message is sent, NoteConfirm picks a random variant. This reduces repetitive patterns that can trigger anti-spam filters.
- Define at least 2 variants per spintax block
A single block with one variant has no effect and triggers a warning in the editor.
- Do not nest spintax inside spintax
Nesting is not supported and may produce malformed text.
- Preview before saving
The editor shows a preview with variables substituted and a random variant selected.
Business lints
The template editor validates rules that protect your confirmation effectiveness:
- No links in first confirmation message: Links in initial contact increase ban risk. Use links only in lifecycle templates (shipped, delivered).
- Required personalization: Every confirmation template must include at least one variable (such as
{{customer_name}}or{{order_number}}). - 500 character limit: Very long messages get truncated on mobile devices and reduce response rates.
- Excessive uppercase: More than 30% uppercase text triggers an aggressive tone warning.
